Other Issues in Media and Society

 Greeting everyone! My blog about the misleading statistics in the media was presenting one of the current issues in the media related to misuse of statistics in the media and fake news. However, there are a lot of issues that exist in the media, and they variously affect people. That is why it is important to learn about them, and understand the ways of how they do affect us. My View

       The fake news is a phenomenon which exist in media for a long time, and its main purpose is to mislead people for financial or political benefit. In many cases,  fake news use statistics for argumentation for their misinformation. We can consider the misleading statistics as a subcategory of fake news, as it uses numbers, tests, and data analysis to meet the expected conclusions and persuasion of people to support the stated point of view. The recent example with vaccination against Covid-19 and its misleading statistical information about harmful effects of vaccines,  causes severe problems with vaccination of the population. Indeed, the misleading statistics cause a problems for the media users, and that is why my blog were created to discuss and identify that issue. Although we live in a technological advanced era, the current technologies provide the high possibility for data to be distorted and manipulated to warp your view. The article consists of 5 main parts, which are Misleading Graphs, Skewed Statistics, Crafted Headlines, Clickbait, and Confirmation bias.  The Misleading Graphs describes the way of how does the graph can be manipulated.  As we discussed earlier, the statistics are one of the most interesting and manipulative tools which could be used for persuasion and hiding the reality by various methods that could be made for statistical reports. This time, I would like to discuss the ways of how the government can manipulate statistics by approaching different methodologies for data analysis.  The statistics could be influence by the some of the governmental organisations. If we assume that all of the bureau of statistics receive the accurate data and made minor changes in data records to adjust them for further analysis, then the main way to have the opportunity for statistics misleading is in the methodology.
